Diary and Autograph Albums, 1838-1882 and n.d.

Collection consists of 4 volumes and miscellaneous items inserted between the pages. Vol. 1, the autograph album (1876) of Blanche Graves, contains autographs of schoolmates as well as two letters addressed to William M. Moore. Vol. 2, the autograph album (1838) of Ann Lyon, contains autographs of her classmates from her school in Salem, N.C.. Vol. 3, the autograph album (1879-1882) of Mary M. Moore, was signed by her classmates at Peace Institute (Raleigh, N.C.) and by friends at Locust Hill Institute. Vol. 4, a diary kept for brief period in 1877 by Mary Moore, was also used between 1875 and 1878 as a school notebook, a commonplace book, and a recipe book. Entries include compositions, an account of a trip to New York, and a few brief observations about life at Peace Institute. Clippings have been pasted over many of the entries and school compositions. Numerous recipes have been written on the back pages or pasted over entries.
